Confirm compatibility
Match the welding rod material, profile and color to the selected PVC sheet flooring and approve a sample before project installation.
Prepare the joint
Make sure the flooring is securely bonded and the seam is clean, dry and correctly grooved for the selected rod.
Check the equipment
Use suitable grooving, hot-air welding and trimming tools. Follow the equipment and material supplier instructions for settings and safe operation.
How to weld vinyl flooring seams
Confirm the flooring and rod materials, adhesive curing requirements and approved installation method before starting.
- Prepare and groove. After the required adhesive curing period, clean the joint and form an even groove to the depth and profile specified for the actual flooring construction. Avoid damage to the backing or substrate.
- Select the compatible rod. Confirm the material, profile, color and quantity against the approved seam detail.
- Make a trial weld. Use offcuts of the actual flooring and rod to check the nozzle, heat setting and travel speed. Review the cooled seam before working on the installed floor.
- Heat-weld consistently. Follow the approved method and maintain controlled travel speed and rod feed along the prepared joint.
- Trim and cool. Follow the system instructions for the first trim, allow the weld to cool fully, then finish flush with suitable trimming tools. Do not remove all excess rod while the weld is still hot.
- Inspect before handover. Review seam continuity, bonding, surface finish and project acceptance requirements. Have the installer assess any gaps, scorching, loose rod or uneven joints.

What temperature should I use to heat weld vinyl flooring?
There is no single temperature setting for every flooring, rod and welding gun. Follow the selected flooring and rod instructions, check the nozzle and equipment, and make a trial weld on offcuts to confirm heat and travel speed before starting the installed seam.
When can I weld seams after laying PVC sheet flooring?
For bonded flooring, follow the adhesive and flooring instructions for the required curing period before welding. Confirm the actual adhesive, substrate and site conditions; a waiting time quoted for another flooring system should not be applied automatically.
Can PVC welding rods be used on linoleum flooring?
PVC and linoleum are different materials. Check the actual flooring specification and the approved rod before installation. A similar color or diameter does not prove the rod is compatible.
Why can a welded seam sink or look uneven after trimming?
Final trimming before the rod has cooled can leave an uneven finish as the weld cools. Groove preparation, heat, travel speed and rod compatibility can also affect the seam. Let the installer review a trial seam and follow the selected system instructions for trimming and inspection.
